sections

Hooray!!! I think I got my scanner to work (somewhat)!!!

These are some sections. I'm gonna work on building a 3D model because I can show whats in my head easier. I'm still looking at the iceberg option. Any thoughts?

Hi Frances!

I think you have your sections labeled incorrectly, look at B & C. In section, I'd love to see your spaces become more dynamic like the water path down. And I'm also interested to see how your patios interact with the circulation. You have a lot of different spaces that don't totally come across in section. Its a good start though!

Oops...Thanks Melissa. I'll fix that tonight when I get home.

Frances,

In the next pass include the interior space of the food court! That is a missed opportunity to engage the upper level and provide seating, ect.

Melissa's comments are good and be more rigorous with the line weights: you draw a thick line and then annotate glass elevator!

Think about alternatives to the vertical circulation: can you come up with other locations and stair types? I am not convinced that what you show is your best option.

Do you have any precedents in mind for the iceberg option?

Look at Moneo's Kursaal project in San Sebastian.

Frances –

The sections are looking good. I like the movement beneath the main stair. Being able to look up and out of that stair will be an interesting feature. In the sections, I am curious if there could be something more on the upper level of the plaza. I would look into that. It is good to see the height relationships between the surrounding buildings.

Frances,
take a look at the L'Hôtel de Glace Canada. It's the Ice Hotel, completely made of ice. It may give you some inspiration with your iceberg idea. Here is a link to a web page about the project, it was the first one on a Google search.

The idea of the building as a glacier doesn't come through in your sections very well. I look forward to seeing your model! Overall, your concept is great and the plans are developing well.

Hi Frances,

I say you go for the iceberg! You already have your spaces cleanly arranged in plan and I think an iceberg could give your project some punch.

I know you sad that you are going to be jumping to your 3D model now for studying. I'm not sure how you plan on going about it, but I would really recommend starting with a solid mass and "carving" away from it for massing your building. I just think that with and iceberg it could become extremely difficult if you're building up walls so to speak.

Have Fun!
